Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our program, admissions, tuition, the “Founding 50” offer, and more.

What is the “Founding 50” Tuition offer?

To help launch our first classes, Empire Barber & Beauty Training Center is offering a special “Founding 50” tuition rate of $8,000 for the first 50 eligible students accepted after required approvals are complete. After the first 50 seats are filled, regular tuition will be $10,000. This is a limited launch opportunity, not a discount — it's our way of supporting early adopters who believe in our mission.

How do I join the “Founding 50” Interest List?

Submit your application inquiry through our website, call us at (518) 836-1535, or text us. Our admissions team will guide you through the enrollment process. Seats are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis as applications are completed and approved.

Do I need any prior barbering experience to enroll?

Our structured, hands-on program is designed to support your preparation for NY State barber licensing — no prior experience needed.

How long is the program?

The Master Barber Track is a 540-hour program, approximately 17 weeks when attending full-time (Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch, 32 instructional hours per week).

What are the admission requirements?

You must be at least 17 years old, have a valid government-issued photo ID, and provide proof of a high school diploma, GED/HSE, or approved equivalent. No prior barbering experience is required. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian signature.

What is the standard tuition after the Founding 50?

Regular tuition for the 540-hour program is $10,000. The “Founding 50” rate of $8,000 may be available to the first 50 eligible students accepted after required approvals are complete.

Do you accept financial aid (FAFSA/Pell Grants)?

Not currently. We are focused on completing state licensing first. We offer flexible payment plans, and our team can help you explore workforce programs, veteran benefit status updates, employer sponsorships, and other funding options.

Is the school licensed?

Empire Barber & Beauty Training Center is currently completing the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) licensing process. Enrollment will not open until all required state approvals are obtained.

What will I be able to do after graduating?

Our program is designed to prepare you to pursue the NY State board exam and support your transition into a barbering career. You'll receive a Certificate of Completion, clock hour documentation, and an official transcript supporting your NY State barber licensing application.

Are there evening or weekend classes?

Our initial focus is a full-time daytime schedule (Mon–Thu). Evening, part-time, and weekend options may be added in the future based on demand, staffing, and BPSS approval.

What's the class size?

Initial cohorts are 10–15 students, scalable up to 20. The student-to-instructor ratio will not exceed 20:1, and smaller groups are preferred for hands-on activities.

Do you support veterans?

Yes. Empire is veteran-owned and operated. We assist veterans with exploring education benefit status updates, workforce programs, and flexible payment options. Contact admissions directly at (518) 836-1535 for current status and next steps.

Where is the school located?

Empire Barber & Beauty Training Center is located at 40 Steuben St, Albany, NY 12207 — in the heart of the Capital District.
